Instrument: Mia's violin is Italian and was made by Mario Gadda in 1953. She has played it since she was 15, so in many ways Mia has become the player she is today with it and through it. They've been through a lot together!

Biography:
Ms. Laity is the second violinist of the Adelphi quartet, the guest artist string quartet in residence at the National Orchestral Institute. Formed by the Sphinx Organization, Adelphi is composed of underrepresented minorities changing the face of classical music through performance and education.  She is also assistant concertmaster of Charlottesville Opera.

Ms. Laity has recorded with Converse Records, Warner Brothers Studios, and the Naxos label, and has performed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, David Geffen (formerly Avery Fischer) Hall, Disney Hall, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Town Hall NYC, and Carnegie Hall.

Ms. Laity studied with Grigory Kalinovsky, Sylvia Rosenberg, and Laurie Smukler at the Manhattan School of Music, receiving the Helen Airoff Dowling award for the outstanding violinist graduating from the BM program.  She resumed her studies with Grigory Kalinovsky as a graduate student at Indiana University, where she also taught as an Associate Instructor.

Passions/Interests:
Mia loves to knit! She adopted a senior Shih Tzu named Coco when he was 10. He is 12 years old now and has been with Mia to DC, Indiana, California, New York, and now Florida.

Career Highlights:
Mia's favorite musical moment is performing the Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears in Spain.
