Auditions will take place at Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, 34236. The physical location is one block west of Tamiami Trail (towards the water) on Van Wezel Way, between 10th Street and Blvd. of the Arts (6th Street). If you have a GPS, enter 709 Van Wezel Way.
The audition committee reserves the right to dismiss any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards. Winning candidates are required to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Director of Artistic Planning
Job Title: Director of Artistic Planning
Department: Artistic Operations
Reports To: Vice President of Artistic Operations
Classification: Full-time, Salary/Exempt
Supervises: Artistic Coordinator and Librarians
Location: Sarasota, FL
General Overview:
Reporting to the VP of Artistic Operations, the Director of Artistic Planning will work closely with the artistic leadership and management team in planning activities for upcoming seasons and executing artistic plans for the Sarasota Orchestra and Sarasota Music Festival. Working in a collaborative, team environment, the Director of Artistic Planning will play a central role in advancing artistic excellence across the organization’s performance missions: professional orchestra, Sarasota Music Festival and education programs.
Responsibilities:
Artistic Programming
- In partnership with the music director, conducting staff and management team, make repertoire and programming suggestions for Masterworks, Pops, Great Escapes, Discoveries, chamber music, and other programs
- Compile artistic plans and coordinate preparation with librarians
- Actively participate in the process for season calendar planning
- Identify guest conductors, artists, Pops programs and other ideas that will advance the artistic profile of Sarasota Orchestra
Contract Management
- Work with agencies and artists’ managers to engage guests and negotiate contracts within agreed upon budgetary guidelines; supervise the Artistic Coordinator to ensure that contracts are executed
- Facilitate guest artist participation in donor-related activities and, when required, ensure these engagements are part of contractual agreements
- Oversee the Artistic Coordinator in the gathering and dissemination of information for artist schedules, rehearsal orders, logistical information and fulfillment of artists' riders
- Manage Artistic Coordinator in fulfilling the foreign visa application process
- Primary artistic contact for Sarasota Opera, Sarasota Ballet and other contracted orchestra and chamber music engagements
- Prepare Orchestra contracted service agreements with other organizations such as Opera and Ballet
- Facilitate communication between conductors, guest artists and Librarians
Administration
- Develop proposals, annual budgets and manage approved budgets for artistic department including guest conductors, guest artists, Pops programs, artistic travel, library rentals and purchases
- Ensure compliance with all CBA requirements within the umbrella of artistic planning and administration
- As required, participate in music director searches and searches for staff conductors
- Communicate artistic plans to Marketing and Development departments, review printed and online content and provide artistic support for Development events
- Lead and oversee accuracy of internal program information for staff
- Participate in weekly Artistic Operations team meetings
- Perform other relevant duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music
- 5 to 7 years relevant staff work experience in orchestral organizations
- Thorough knowledge of orchestral repertoire
- Proficiency in computer software including Office and OPAS
- Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Self-motivated, detail oriented and deadline driven
- Ability to work nights and weekends during season
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, bend, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. Repetitive motion is required while using a computer. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures and viewing a computer terminal. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Working Conditions:
The job operates in a professional environment including performance hall and office settings. The environment is generally moderate in temperature and noise level.

Youth Orchestra Manager
Job Title: Youth Orchestra Manager
Department: Education
Reports To: Director of Education
Classification: Full-time / Salary-Exempt

General Overview:
In conjunction with the Director, run the day-to-day operations of Sarasota Youth Orchestras and Summer Music Camp. This position will also work closely with the Education staff and faculty to provide support for the community education programs including, Young Person’s Concerts, Young Artists Competition and outreach to the schools.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of Sarasota Youth Orchestras
- Manage the setup and execution of the Summer Music Camp
- Manage data entry for the Sarasota Youth Orchestras and Summer Music Camp
- Help process music and other library tasks for all Education Programs
- Initiate and maintain positive relationships with parents, students, teachers and Education faculty
- Organize audition process for yearly audition and seating auditions
- Lead the process to organize and input data for all Sarasota Youth Orchestras private lesson scholarships
- Create rehearsal plots and interface with Production for all Education setups
- Help execute the community education programs
- Represent the Orchestra at Orchestra programs and other events
- Adhere to the Orchestra’s policy and procedure on Prevention of Abuse and Molestation for Employees and Volunteers with Regular Contact with Minor Children
- Perform other relevant duties and additional projects as assigned. Duties and responsibilities described herein are not a comprehensive list, and additional job tasks may be assigned from time to time as necessitated by the Education department and business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Arts Administration (with music background) or Performance (with a minor in Education)
- 3+ years’ experience in arts education (youth orchestra experience a plus)
- Strong Arts Administration skills
- Ability to initiate and maintain positive relationships with parents, students, volunteers and co-workers
- Excellent customer service skills; must enjoy working with people of all ages, especially children
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong computer skills including database experience; Tessitura experience a plus
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Music library experience a plus
- Bilingual in English and Spanish helpful but not required

Production Assistant (Part-Time)
General Overview:
Assist in the setup and teardown of Sarasota Orchestra and Youth Orchestra events, Sarasota Music Festival, Summer Music Camp, Friedman Symphony Center rentals, and other functions as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Execute set ups for Sarasota Orchestra and Youth Orchestra services in all performance venues, and for rentals at the Friedman Symphony Center
- Load/Unload orchestra equipment truck for transport to other venues
- Assist Facilities Manager in all aspects of building operations/maintenance
- Act as a stagehand for Sarasota Orchestra and Youth Orchestra services when needed
- Properly operate lighting systems in the Friedman Symphony Center
- Maintain positive relationships with orchestra musicians, conductors, staff, Youth Orchestra parents, students, volunteers, and co-workers
- Perform other relevant duties and additional projects as assigned. Duties and responsibilities described herein are not a comprehensive list, and additional job tasks may be assigned from time to time as necessitated by the Artistic operations department and business needs.
- Weekly hours offered for this position: ranging from 14 – 20 hours.

Marketing Intern (Part-Time/Temporary)
Job Title: Marketing Intern

SUMMARY:
Sarasota Orchestra is a premier regional orchestra with one of the most internationally renowned classical music teaching festivals, which is held each June. Faculty and student fellows travel to Sarasota from around the world.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-driven and passionate marketing intern to assist with a wide range of projects in support of Sarasota Orchestra and Sarasota Music Festival marketing activities. Work will be in person, with full-time activity during the Festival (June 4 - 25) and flexible work periods before and / or after the Festival.
Are you working on a music degree and have a demonstrated interest in marketing? Are you a marketing major with experience and interest in classical music or working in an artistic environment? This could be an ideal and fun opportunity for you to obtain meaningful experience with a team committed to mentoring and collaboration!
INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:
Digital Marketing and Social Media
- Assist with social media including content creation and scheduling/uploading posts via Hootsuite and Facebook Creator Studio.
- Provides active support during the Sarasota Music Festival (June 5 – 24) in creating content, photography, social media, and blog postings. Assist public relations manager in activities involved in promoting the Festival.
- Enter online calendar listings on local events calendars. Attention to detail important, includes UTM codes & an opportunity to learn about Google Analytics.
Public Relations
- Draft monthly concert press releases for the 2023-2024 season, including concert information, descriptions, and artist bios, in accordance with the AP Stylebook.
Archival Work
- Organize print collateral from previous seasons.
- Update news clippings spreadsheet as needed and save digital news clippings (PDF).
Program / Software Use and Orientation
- Utilize and learn Hootsuite, Facebook Creator Studio, Facebook Business, Google Analytics, Basecamp, Dropbox.
The intern will perform other relevant duties and additional projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Career level: college student or a recent graduate, in a Music, Marketing or related program.
- Demonstrates interest in learning about and contributing to a marketing team for a non-profit and performing arts organization.
- Ability to work in-person full time for three weeks in June 2023 and 20-30 hours per week before and after June as available. Sarasota Orchestra anticipates this intern project would include up to 200 total hours of work, that may be flexible over a variable time period.
- A team player who can work both independently and collaboratively.
- Strong creativity and written / verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft office programs.
- Hourly pay: $11.00/hour.
- College credit and work study programs may be available through your college or university. Participants may arrange for academic credit through their school, but it is not a requirement.
